  • My new GameMaker networking engine.

Posted by: Reece Warren - 18/01/2018

If you've been looking at my GitHub page for my game project (Xodusse) recently, you may have noticed that I haven't actually updated it in a while. There is good reason for this however. Behind the scenes I've been working on a networking engine specifically for GameMaker games, the way I'm developing this networking engine will allow me to implement the code easily into new games I develop. The engine itself consists of two projects where one is a server host, and the other is a client. The host itself generates config files when it's created which can be tweaked to allow different player counts and the server's port number to be altered, it also logs events to a text file that can be read afterwards.

I'll actually putting Xodusse on display again on the 24th of this month at Sumo Digital's Riverside Game Night 2.0. Event link here. I intend to add some much needed features actually into the game by this date however.

If anyone would find it useful also, I'm also considering making my GameMaker: Studio networking engine open source! So if you would like to know more, please get in touch with me here.
